St Augustine’s College at Augustine Heights, Queensland, needed a statement shade structure to anchor a key outdoor area within the school grounds. The brief called for a large, architecturally striking design that could provide substantial coverage over a central gathering or play space, while standing as a visual landmark on the campus.

Vector Shade delivered a 20-metre conic shade structure with incorporated guttering — one of the largest single-span conic structures in Vector Shade’s portfolio. The conic form rises dramatically to a central apex, channelling rainwater efficiently through the integrated guttering system and away from the area below. The canopy is clad in Ferrari 782 S2 fabric, while the structural steel is hot dipped galvanised for long-term corrosion resistance. As a purpose-built commercial shade structure, every element is engineered for durability and low maintenance over the life of the installation.

The hero image captures the structure mid-installation — the sheer scale of the 20-metre conic canopy is apparent as it takes shape above the school grounds, surrounded by the landscaped outdoor areas and play equipment below. Once complete, the structure provides a fully covered, all-weather gathering space that students can use throughout the school year regardless of Queensland’s often unpredictable weather.
