Southport Park Shopping Centre in Southport, Queensland, required a comprehensive car park shade solution that could cover large numbers of vehicles across an open-air parking area. The brief called for a robust, weatherproof structure that would protect shoppers and their vehicles from the Queensland sun and rain, while standing up to the constant traffic and long-term demands of a busy retail environment.
Vector Shade delivered a series of custom engineered cantilever waterproof PVC structures that sweep across multiple rows of the car park. The structures use Ferrari 832S2 fabric — a high-performance PVC material chosen for its durability and waterproof performance. The steel framework is hot dip galvanised, providing excellent long-term corrosion resistance in an outdoor setting. Together, these materials make for a commercial shade structure built to last with minimal ongoing maintenance.
From the aerial view, the scale of the installation is immediately apparent — row after row of pale, arching canopies provide consistent shading across the entire car park. The cantilever design keeps the parking bays free from internal support columns, maximising the usable space and allowing vehicles to manoeuvre easily. For shoppers, the result is a far more comfortable experience arriving and departing the centre, regardless of the weather.
