Ballina Aquatic Centre needed genuine weather protection over its spectator and kiosk areas, not just sun relief, so VECTOR engineered a cantilevered PVC solid roof that spans clear over the seating and food areas without a single internal column blocking sightlines to the pool. Paired with shade sails along the adjoining lane pool, the finished project gives swimmers, families and event crowds cover in all conditions.
The cantilever roof is clad in Serge Ferrari 902S2 fabric, backed by a 15-year warranty, a heavy-duty waterproof membrane built to handle constant pool-side humidity and UV exposure. Supporting steelwork is finished to marine specification with a 10-year warranty, protecting against the corrosive combination of chlorine and coastal air found at aquatic centres like Ballina. This kind of long-span, column-free cantilever is a hallmark of VECTOR’s commercial shade structure engineering, where structural spans are pushed further to keep sightlines and gathering spaces open.
Ballina Aquatic now enjoys shaded, sheltered spectator seating alongside its pools, a functional upgrade that keeps the centre in use rain or shine.
