Alstonville Aquatic Centre in northern NSW called for a shade solution that could handle the demands of a busy public pool facility — one that would provide genuine weather protection over the pool deck while standing up to the conditions of a coastal-adjacent environment. Vector Shade Structures delivered a custom engineered cantilever waterproof PVC structure purpose-built for the site.
The completed structure is a sweeping curved cantilever design, engineered to project out over the pool deck without the need for internal columns — keeping the space beneath clear and accessible for swimmers and staff. The fabric chosen was Ferrari 702S2, a premium waterproof PVC membrane known for its durability, UV resistance, and dimensional stability. Unlike shade cloth, this is a fully waterproof roof that provides complete protection from both sun and rain.
The steel framework was fabricated and finished to 2-pack paint applied to marine specifications — a critical requirement in aquatic environments where chlorine, humidity, and salt-laden air accelerate corrosion. The result is a structure built to perform and look sharp for decades, even in a pool setting.
The hero image of the finished site shows just how well the cantilever roof integrates with the broader aquatic precinct, complementing the existing blue shade sails over the leisure area and the solar installations on the main building roof. It’s a cohesive, well-considered project that reflects Vector Shade Structures’ experience in delivering complex commercial structures in demanding environments.
