At Sanctuary Cove on Hope Island, VECTOR Shade Structures delivered one of the most ambitious projects in the company’s history: a custom engineered ribbon structure covering the marina, described as a first of its kind in the world. The sculptural, flowing form winds above the boardwalk and berths, its dramatic curves reflected in the water below.

The scale of the undertaking was immense, spanning over 10,000 square metres and using close to 300 tonnes of steel across more than 1,000 individual engineering drawings, the result of some 18 months of dedicated design and development. The canopy itself is finished in Mahler FR700 blockout fabric, while the supporting structure is hot dip galvanised for long-term durability in the marine environment. As a landmark example of a custom engineered shade structure, it pushed the boundaries of what a tensioned ribbon form can achieve at scale.

The finished structure has become a defining architectural feature of the marina, showcasing VECTOR’s ability to deliver complex, large-scale engineered shade solutions for prestige developments across the Gold Coast.
